About me

I’m a Reader in the Statistics and Probability Group in the Department of Mathematics at the University of York, UK.

  Research

My research interests are primarily in applied probability. In particular:

  • mixing times of Markov chains
  • perfect simulation
  • coupling theory
  • interacting particle systems.

Here are a list of my publications and some selected talks.

  Outreach

I regularly run outreach sessions at local schools, and from 2017 - 2020 I was a London Mathematical Society Holgate Session Leader.

  External

  • I co-founded the Probability in the North East (PiNE) research network
  • I’m an editor for the Applied Probability Trust journals
  • I’m a member of the Research Grants Committee of the London Mathematical Society
  • From 2020 - 2024 I was an external member of the Academic Steering and Management Group for the Scottish Mathematical Sciences Training Centre
  • For most of 2009 - 2019 I was a lecturer of the Applied Stochastic Processes module for the Academy for PhD Training in Statistics (APTS
